Planning
The Planning Department is located in the Hanley Building behind New City Hall.
The Jacksonville Planning Department is responsible for current and long-range planning, as well as the implementation of the Jacksonville Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code (Chapters 15-18 of the Jacksonville Municipal Code). The Planning Staff assists with general planning/zoning related questions, land use and design applications, as well as with building, plumbing and mechanical permits.
Since most development requires some level of review to ensure compliance with standards adopted by the community, we advise all residents to contact the Planning Department prior to making modifications to the exterior of any structure.
Furthermore, because Jacksonville is a National Historic Landmark District, the department is also responsible for implementing the historic chapter of the Jacksonville Development Code. Public hearings regarding modifications to historic properties are held by the Historic & Architectural Review Commission and the Planning Commission. If you have questions regarding design review, what modifications can be made to a historic property, historic listing status for a property, how to research your home or property, please contact us.
